Will Neotel surprise us?

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 12 February 2008

Will Neotel surprise us with favorable Internet access rates? This is the question one can ask after Neotel recently released their proposed or preliminary enterprise call rates and billing system, which definitely left a better than expected aroma in the air. This is especially true when compared to Telkom’s current call rates and minimum call charge billing system.

It is no secret that Neotel (SNO) is waiting on the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) to approve the proposed call rates they recently filed with them. Neotel also released their proposed call rates into the public domain for everyone to see. Neotel’s proposed call rates, even not taking into consideration that no customer discounts are reflected yet, are very competitive when compared to Telkom’s current call rates. In terms of billing, unlike Telkom, Neotel will charge callers per second and will not apply a minimal call charge. Neotel’s per second billing will apply to all calls and not just calls that are made to mobile numbers. This will definitely give Neotel the competitive edge in terms of pricing and billing should Telkom fail to make the necessary adjustments.
