Where is the ADSL
SLA?
ADSL
South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 14 July
2007
Telkom has failed to supply
ICASA with an ADSL Service Level
Agreement (SLA) by the end of May as promised earlier in
a meeting with ICASA and
MyADSL.
Telkom’s failure to provide ICASA with an
ADSL SLA in time is surely not the last and only example of
Telkom’s non-compliance with ICASA ADSL regulations. Its
however a clear sign that Telkom is simply not committed to
comply with ADSL regulations. Telkom has no excuse for not
having an ADSL SLA ready because the ADSL regulations were
released almost a year ago. Telkom had more than enough time to
bring something to the table.
The ADSL regulations are very clear
when it comes to ADSL SLAs: ‘Telkom, SNO and the ISPs
shall enter into service level agreements with subscribers’
(Telkom reneges on ADSL promise to ICASA and consumers,
MyBroadband, 6 July 2007).
In other words, entering into ADSL SLAs is
not optional.
When will Telkom provide ICASA with
an ADSL SLA?
Well, May and June went and we’re almost half
way into July…
According to a statement released by Telkom
it “…is in the process of finalising the ADSL Service Level
Agreement” (Telkom reneges on ADSL promise to ICASA and
consumers, MyBroadband, 6 July 2007).
In other words, it is safe to say that
Telkom is working on it although they didn’t commit to a
time line this time around.
