We can go much faster
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa), 5 November 2007
Word is out that we still suck as a country when it comes to
broadband speeds when compared to international standards. This leaves much room for
improvement.
Two international broadband testing services, TCPIQ and
Speedtest.net, have given South Africa the thumbs down.
TCPIQ…
‘According to TCPIQ Line Speed Meter’s worldwide results South
Africa is third from the bottom for broadband speed. In the list of 30 countries South Africa only beats India and
Indonesia and is ranked 28 th in terms of upload and download speeds’ (SA’s poor broadband speeds, MyBroadband, 31 October 2007).
In other words, South Africa’s ‘…mean download speed of around 300
Kbps and a mean upload speed in the region of 150 Kbps’ is simply not doing wonders for us (SA’s poor broadband
speeds, MyBroadband, 31 October 2007).
