If ICASA and Cosatu succeed…
If ICASA and Cosatu succeed in blocking the sale of Telkom’s 15%
stake in Vodacom to Vodafone, then the expected inflow of R22.5bn as a result of the proposed sale will not take
place, and the Rand will sure as hell take a much more severe hammering.
The above will lead to job losses, more expensive products and
services, increased political instability, et cetera. However, maybe of more importance to ADSL and other
broadband users in South Africa, it will stop or slow down the telecoms revolution in South Africa, leading to
the survival of a telecoms regime that is characterised by its fanatical maintenance of among the highest
telecoms prices in the world. This is why ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) truly hopes that the North
Gauteng High Court will find in favour of Telkom and Vodacom later today. The millions of average Joes out there
must not make the mistake to fall for ICASA and Cosatu’s lies. They are not holding you or South Africa’s best
interests at heart, but rather their own selfish political agendas.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) is 110% against ICASA
and Cosatu’s interference in the telecoms market in this instance. They are about to do more damage to telecoms in
South Africa than the late ‘Poison Ivy’ could imagine to do in a thousand years.
