Verizon Business SA

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 19 April 2007

One of South Africa’s first tier ISPs, Verizon Business SA, ‘…are planning to target the ADSL space by more actively marketing their high quality ADSL accounts and adding a few other surprises to the mix in 2007’ (Verizon Business starting to make inroads into ADSL space, MyADSL, 13 April 2007).

How many and what ADSL products does Verizon Business SA currently offer?

They currently offer two separate ADSL products ‘…one is designed for VPN [Virtual Private Network] use and provides only local connectivity, including connectivity to our peers. The other is a standard Internet Access Product’ (Verizon Business starting to make inroads into ADSL space, MyADSL, 13 April 2007).

What makes their ADSL service or products noteworthy?

The high quality of their ADSL service is one aspect that’s noteworthy.

“The [ADSL] products are unshaped and can be implemented either as limited traffic or unlimited traffic. Throughput is very good and the customer can anticipate that it will stay that way” (Verizon Business starting to make inroads into ADSL space, MyADSL, 13 April 2007). This is according to Verizon Business SA.

In other words, the throughput (Output relative to input; the amount passing through a system from input to output – WordWeb) of their ADSL products is great and other plus points include the fact that their ADSL products are unshaped, et cetera.

How are resellers feeling about the Verizon Business SA ADSL services?

It seems that their ADSL services are quite popular with resellers.

‘Verizon Business says that most of South Africa’s second tier service providers currently resell their ADSL services. One of these ISPs is Nashua Mobile, who is confident that their decision to resell Verizon accounts is the right one’ (Verizon Business starting to make inroads into ADSL space, MyADSL, 13 April 2007).

In other words, Nashua Mobile for one prefers the Verizon Business SA ADSL services above others.

What are Nashua Mobile’s reasons for reselling Verizon accounts?

Nashua Mobile mentioned the following as reasons why they resell Verizon accounts:

  • Low latency – ‘…the Verizon Business ADSL service offers low latency…’ (Verizon Business starting to make inroads into ADSL space, MyADSL, 13 April 2007). Latency is according to WordWeb ‘the time that elapses between a stimulus and the response to it.’
  • High speeds – ‘…brilliant speeds…’ (Verizon Business starting to make inroads into ADSL space, MyADSL, 13 April 2007).
  • Stability and reliability  – ‘…is very stable and reliable’ (Verizon Business starting to make inroads into ADSL space, MyADSL, 13 April 2007).
  • Perfect fit – Nashua Mobile said: “Added to this the Verizon model fits in well with Nashua Mobile’s goal of providing the customer with a choice of carriers while assuring excellent converged communications services from a single source” (Verizon Business starting to make inroads into ADSL space, MyADSL, 13 April 2007).

How does the Verizon Business SA ADSL service compares to SAIX and other counterparts that offer low latency and good speeds?

Favourable.

‘Recent independent testing by MyADSL confirms that the Verizon Business ADSL service compares favourably with its SAIX and Internet Solutions counterparts, offering low latency and good speeds’ (Verizon Business starting to make inroads into ADSL space, MyADSL, 13 April 2007).

In other words, independent testing by MyADSL confirms that the Verizon Business SA ADSL service compares favourable to counterparts in terms of latency and speeds.
