Other obstacles…
Despite ICASA’s proposed hike in license fees, it’s also clear
that many of the VANs simply do not have the financial muscle to build their own networks.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) expects that players
such as Altech and ECN will be among the first VANs to build networks of their own. However, only time will tell
when these and other VANs will start to build their own networks. The prospect of not having Telkom in your hair must be great, but it will
certainly not be easy to build one’s own network while keeping up with all the changes in the telecoms sector
and with ICASA’s license fee hikes.
One huge benefit for the brave
ones…
VANs that go out and build their own networks can rest assure that
despite all the other obstacles, they will enjoy the full support of the
Average Joes in South Africa. This will be a huge benefit considering that
things are going to become very heated competition wise in the months and years to come.
ADSL South Africa
(Broadband South Africa) wishes VANs the best of luck in building their own networks and taking the fight to
Telkom. We are also eagerly awaiting Telkom’s response.
