Undersea Cable System: SEACOM expected to be back online soon
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 19 July
2010
ADSL users should welcome news that the SEACOM undersea cable system is expected to be back online
later this week. A repair ship has arrived in the affected area in the Indian Ocean.
Good news…
Finally
some good news relating to SEACOM, especially if one considers the spate of bad news that surfaced about SEACOM
in recent days and months.
It would
have been interesting to be a fly against the wall at ADSL Broadband Providers that resell SEACOM
bandwidth after the recent outage due to another cable break or cable fault for that matter. Most of us were
excited about the likes of SEACOM breaching our shore line, especially given the fact that the cost of
international bandwidth has drop significantly in South Africa as a direct result of it. The outages or
disconnections because of the mentioned problems are however becoming annoying, not only to those ADSL users
depended on SEACOM for bandwidth, but also to those who have to share capacity on the SAT3 with bandwidth hungry SEACOM resellers… one can
therefore not help to smile about news that SEACOM should be back online later this week.
In other
words, SEACOM is expected to be back online later this week despite all the cable breaks and cable
faults.
