Undeniable fact

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 17 May 2007

Even though Telkom will deny it, research done by US-based cost management consulting firm NUS Consulting Group, shows beyond reasonable doubt that Telkom’s tariffs remain at ridiculous high levels. Telkom is once again outdoing themselves.

In fact, ‘fixed-line costs in SA are the third highest in the world…’ (Telkom charges are world’s third highest, Phasiwe, Business Day, 17 May 2007).

In other words, no wonder our economy is not the third best in the world.

According to NUS: “Telkom’s charges continue to disadvantage South African organisations in their efforts to compete in the world’s major markets” (Telkom charges are world’s third highest, Phasiwe, Business Day, 17 May 2007).

In other words, we South Africans can thank Telkom for holding us back despite what Telkom might have to say. They DO us in. Period.

What about last year’s price cuts?

Telkom’s tariffs remain high despite last year’s price cuts.

‘Telkom’s tariffs remained high despite its 10% reduction for long-distance national calls and 30% discount on calls to the US’ (Telkom charges are world’s third highest, Phasiwe, Business Day, 17 May 2007).

In other words, last year’s price cuts were drops in the ocean compared to what they should be charging us.

According to NUS Director in South Africa, Stephan Dolk: Telkom’s “…prices simply do not compete with the tariffs charged by telecommunications operators in many other countries, where charges for many call categories have dropped sharply in recent years as a result of fierce competition” (Telkom charges are world’s third highest, Phasiwe, Business Day, 17 May 2007).

In other words, don’t be fooled by Telkom. They will pretend to go out of their way to pass savings onto you but remember that they are only giving you part of what’s suppose to be yours and ours anyway!
