An unacceptable cost

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 18 January 2009

South Africa needs additional broadband infrastructure but things are starting to get out of hand. Infrastructure providers laying down broadband cables in the Rosebank/Sandton areas seem to be more interested in making money than to lay down cables in a responsible manner.

Neotel pays dearly…

In the latest development, one of the infrastructure providers has cut into a broadband cable in Rosebank, causing service downtime for many of Neotel’s customers. This is unacceptable if one considers that it’s now the second major network failure experienced by Neotel this week due to another company’s mistake.

Broadband infrastructure providers are slow to fix their mistakes…

Now it will be unacceptable to expect that infrastructure providers do not make any mistakes, because we all mess up at some time or another, but what worries ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) is the fact that broadband infrastructure providers such as Dark Fibre Africa are slow to refill damaged roads and pavements in a proper and timely manner.

The tarnished Sandton Drive is a perfect example of Dark Fibre Africa’s ability to mess up the tarmac and leave it in a state of despair.
