Tired of Neotel yet?

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 9 June 2009

This is the question one can ask to several Neotel subscribers who are currently experiencing serious network problems. To make things worse, Neotel blames the network problems on overcapacity instead of a lack of effective planning.

Overloaded towers…

A large number of Neotel subscribers are currently experiencing a broadband hell characterized by constant disconnects and slow speeds. This while Neotel is ‘sugar coating’ from here to Timbuktu and primarily blaming overloaded towers for the state of affairs.

Part of Neotel’s ‘sugar coating’ exercise is to indicate that capacity problems will occur during their ‘roll-out phase.’ In addition, they are trying to make sure that their subscribers understand the difference between ‘theoretical maximum speeds’ and ‘real world speeds.’ They do this while it is blatantly clear that their subscribers are not enjoying Internet access at broadband speeds and the consistency that should come with broadband connections. We all know that 9 times out of 10, advertised broadband speeds differ from actual broadband speeds achieved, but Neotel is clearly taking the piss.
