Telkom's goal: 14 days
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 19
November 2006
Telkom aims to bring the
average time to get an ADSL line installed down to 14 days from the current plus minus 21 days. This is according
to the CEO of Telkom, Papi Molotsane.
It’s encouraging to see that Telkom has already
managed to make some progress by bringing the above mentioned time down to plus minus 21 days from a hefty 60 days
or two months previously. This is true if we accept Molotsane’s word for it. We’re sure however that many South
Africans will disagree with this. Maybe the most important aspect here is that we’re at least moving in the right
direction in terms of the sounds Molotsane is making.
Telkom’s Chief operating officer, Reuben September, seems to be a funny guy although
many will find his joke about the ADSL installation backlogs a bit on the dry side. Come on Reuben, do you really
refer to it as “a healthy order book”? The only thing that seems to be healthy is your appetite to underestimate
our level of intelligence. Keep your personal preferences for yourself and rather focus on bringing installation
time down. In other words, rather focus on your job as Chief operating officer. You’re not the Chief clown. Leave
that for the folks in the circus.
Enough of that and of Telkom’s promises already. Let’s wait and see if they
can pull it of.
