Fines are not enough, even when successful… 

Even if the Competition Commission successfully imposes fines unto Telkom it will not be enough to bring Telkom’s reign of terror to an end.

Regulatory interventions should be expanded to introduce the following as a matter of urgency: Carrier Pre-Selection, Local Number Portability and Local Loop Unbundling. This will most definitely help to bring Telkom’s reign of terror to an end, leaving no space for the likes of SBC Communications and others to screw us over again.  

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) is happy that the Competition Commission is starting to show teeth at Telkom again. Hopefully they will be able to bite into a large chunk this time around, which can only be good for telecoms in South Africa. We wish them the best of luck in helping to change the telecoms market in South Africa for the better.
