MOU between Telkom and
AT&T…
It is no secret that Telkom and AT&T have
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) earlier this year in April to establish a seamless connectivity
between Telkom and AT&T networks. The aim of seamless connectivity is according to them to allow
companies in Sub-Saharan Africa to connect more effectively to global markets.
The above may be the case, but ADSL South
Africa (Broadband South Africa) is a bit sceptical. If one considers the considerable damage that was done to
the SA telecoms sector, especially by SBC Communications which is now part of AT&T, then one can’t help
to be sceptical. In fact, ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) hopes that the Competition Commission
can find ways to punish SBC Communications by biting at AT&T. Leaders in Sub-Saharan Africa, leaders of
countries south of the Sahara, should not allow AT&T to do business in their countries while SBC
Communications forms part of the group.
