Minister of Telecommunications,
Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri’s decision to appeal a high court ruling that ICASA’s licensing process is flawed and that Value Added
Service Providers (VANs) such as Altech have the right to build their own networks, is a perfect example of a
person that’s misusing her authority, not only at a very late stage in the political game, but also at a great
cost to South Africa as a whole. ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) hopes
that the new administration will make an example of people such as her. She has proven beyond reasonable doubt
that she is only interested in the enrichment of herself and the fat cats at Telkom. It is time that leaders
that actually care for the Average Joes rule in South Africa. Mbeki and his clowns are on their way out and one
can only hope that serious people who actually love the people of South Africa make up the bulk of the new
administration.
The long and short of it is that Telkom’s current plans to outsource operations are not based
on healthy business practice. All signs are there that it is rather a case of Telkom’s fat cats fighting to
secure their futures in a South Africa that has become increasingly irritated with the likes of them.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) is not against
outsourcing, but when it is done in an irresponsible manner to secure one’s own future at such a great cost, it is
simply criminal at best.
