Telkom: Nzeku vs. September
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 8
February 2009
Fired Chief of Operations
at Telkom, Motlatsi Nzeku, and Telkom CEO, Reuben September, are at each other’s throats amidst a sea
of allegations relating to corruption and other malpractices at
Telkom.
Nzeku under intense fire…
Telkom has fired Nzeku earlier this week, and in what can be seen
as a rare move, publicly attacked himby condemning him for ‘…his underperformance and for behaviour damaging to Telkom’s reputation’
(Telkom fires operations chief amid talk of corruption, Business Day, Lesley Stones, 7 February 2009).
This has come amidst various allegations of corruption relating to Telkom’s tender processes, theleaking of confidential
documents(outlining Telkom’s strategy) to
competitors, phone tapping, et cetera. Details remain sketchy at best
despite the fact that Telkom has admitted that there ‘… there are a number of very serious allegations
floating around that are very damaging to the company...’ (Telkom fires operations chief amid talk of
corruption, Business Day, Lesley Stones, 7 February 2009).
