Telkom: No deals until April
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 19
October 2008
The
Average Joes working at Telkom will have less to worry about at least until April
next year. This is after pressure from unions forced Telkom to agree that no outsourcing deals will be signed
until April
2009.
Against planned outsourcing of Telkom’s
operations…
It is no secret that ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) can be
counted among those who are against the planned outsourcing of Telkom’s operations. Again, not because we’re
against the notion of outsourcing but rather because we’re against the notion of outsourcing when it’s done by
people with no compassion for the Average Joes. The truth is that we the Average Joes are not by any stretch of
the imagination average. No, we’re not average; we just want life in general to be uncomplicated. Why make
uncomplicated matters complicated? The point we want to make is that Telkom’s Senior Management team’s decision
to outsource between 80% and 90% of Telkom’s operations will only help to complicate matters because we believe
they are only in it to enrich themselves at a cost to the Average Joes. This is why we’re sure many of you will
welcome the news that Telkom will not sign any outsourcing deals until April next year.
