Telkom and ANC in the same boat
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa), 5 October 2008
It has become increasingly clear in recent months that Telkom and the ANC is in the same boat. The same boat not in
terms of cooperation or anything of that sort but rather the boat where there’s a clear lack of leadership and
where it seems chaos reign supreme at this time in
history.
Both Telkom and the ANC are going through a period of
crisis whether they want to admit it or not...
Telkom
Telkom not only has to face increasing competition from new market
entrants such as Neotel but also has to battle the demons within. Demons
released by Telkom’s Senior Management team when they decided that they want to outsource between 80% and 90% of
Telkom’s operations.
It is no secret that South Africa, like many other countries in the
world, currently faces an economic crisis of gigantic proportions despite attempts to brush it off as not serious
or something that will blow over in the short term. We’re in fact standing on the very edge of an economic
collapse, similar or even worse than the economic collapse experienced in the 1930s, which was coined “The Great
Depression”. In times like these, when it seems that uncertainty is choking the hope of a bright and secure future,
it becomes increasingly important for employers not only to put the fears of employees to rest, but to actively
take steps that will lessen the effect of an economic crisis on the company and its employees. This is why it’s
mind-boggling that the fat cats at Telkom are not only adding to the fears of employees, but clearly trying their
best to tear the company apart and risk the jobs of the average joes who work for Telkom.
In fact, we are at a stage where Telkom shareholders are becoming
increasingly agitated with the clear lack of leadership and drive at Telkom.
