Telkom is aiming too
high
ADSL
South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 10 December
2006
Telkom’s aim (or
broadband promise) to achieve a 15% ADSL line penetration
by 2010 might prove to be too high. Assuming that
installation rates remain on current levels as well as
the number of fixed
lines.
Telkom needs to bring a massive 702 000
ADSL subscribers on board by 2010 if they want to stick to
their broadband promise. They will almost have to double the
installation rate of the past year. This means they will
have to up the installation rate of round about 8 000 to 13
000 per month.
Taking into consideration the
ever-falling number of fixed lines for one due to almost
non-existent maintenance in many rural areas they will really
have to pull the strings. The sad thing is that Telkom is more
than happy to collect monthly payments in many of those areas
while basic phone services rather represent something from the
Stone Age. ADSL South Africa is planning to do a story in this
regard early next year. We shall have photographic evidence as
well as testimonials ready in order to expose Telkom’s
shameless ‘thievery’ in many of those areas.
ADSL South Africa
(Broadband South
Africa) will keep on
exposing Telkom’s inability or lack of drive to really
make a difference in regard to ADSL in South
Africa.
