Take the fight to Neotel
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 4 July
2009
It’s encouraging to see that a growing
number of Average Joes are taking the fight to Neotel. Entrepreneur Colin Levin has lodged a complaint with The Dependent Communications Authority of South
Africa (DCASA) after it has become
clear that Neotel is not delivering on its advertised
claims.
Slower than
dial-up…
Levin has decided to take the fight to
Neotel after it has become clear that Neotel is not willing to address his problems without added-on external
pressure.
The average download speed of the
data-only 10GB Neoflex package, the Neotel package Levin is subscribed to, has crawled to a miserable 150Kbps when
downloading, even dipping below the download speeds offered by dial-up at times. Miserable, especially if one
considers that Neotel is advertising “peak speeds of 3.1Mbps (downloads) and 1.8Mbps (uploads)” and “average data
speeds of between 450Kbps and 900Kbps (downloads) and 300Kbps to 700Kbps (uploads)” on its website relating to the
package Levin is subscribed to. In addition, Levin has experienced annoying service disconnects which resulted in a
loss of data, not to speak of the email service dragging to a halt on three occasions for at least 24
hours.
