Strong ADSL growth

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 23 November 2008

The number of people subscribing to ADSL in South Africa continues to grow at a phenomenal rate. This is evident from Telkom’s latest set of financial results, which indicates that Telkom’s ADSL subscriber base has grown with 46.7% over the past financial year to just short of 492 000 subscribers.

Phenomenal growth…

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) can’t help to refer to the growth of ADSL in South Africa as phenomenal, especially if one considers Telkom’s success in this regard. The reason being is the fact that despite all the instances of shitty customer service experienced, madness under the cloak of outsourcing, unreliable ADSL connections, et cetera people are still subscribing to Telkom ADSL in their droves. This is a clear sign that people hunger after ADSL and want it even if it means that they have to buy it from the likes of Telkom.

Another reason why we describe the growth of ADSL in South Africa as phenomenal is because of the tough economic conditions in South Africa and elsewhere in the world. One would expect the growth in the number of ADSL subscribers to dip drastically but it seems that the opposite is happening. ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) believes the opposite is happening because of the telecoms revolution that is happening in South Africa. This revolution is not only going to break up the likes of Telkom (in its old form) but it will change the telecoms arena in South Africa completely: Consumers will be spoiled with choice and will enjoy broadband Internet at very low rates.
