Although it’s nice to have broadband access, it shouldn’t result in the waste of
taxpayers’ money. It simply is not right that people that work hard to pay for broadband access should subsidize or
waste their money on those that can’t afford it. Why not rather use the money to empower people through other means
that will enable them to pay for broadband Internet access themselves? It stands to reason, how someone that can’t
afford to have broadband Internet access can make a contribution to the South African economy, when it means
that taxpayers’ money is going down the drain to provide that access? Again, it’s simply not right. We are
convinced that it is possible to bring broadband Internet services to underserviced communities in more financial
efficient ways.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) welcomes
Sentech’s WiMAX plans but the wasting of taxpayers’ money should stop
with immediate effect.
