Will Vivid viewers be switched
off?
No.
‘Sentech’s satellite television offering, Vivid, is beamed into thousands of homes. One analyst said that
because these viewers had paid a once-off fee for their decoders and satellite dishes, Vivid was not technically a
pay-TV subscription broadcaster, so it was unlikely its viewers would be switched off’ (Sentech pull-out from
pay-TV race a puzzle, Tom McLachlan, Business Day, 14 September 2007).
In other words, because Vivid is not technically a pay TV subscription broadcaster, it’s unlikely that its
viewers will be switched off.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) was also surprised by Sentech’s sudden pullout from the pay TV
race although the company can still be indirectly in the race despite its pullout.
