Sentech: Nyanda to the rescue
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa), 7 February 2010
It seems like struggling parastatal signal
distributor, Sentech, has a chance of survival after all. This comes after the Communications Minister, Siphiwe
Nyanda, made it clear earlier this week that there’s going to be a shake up at Sentech in order to save it
from utter collapse.
Lack of sufficient state
funding…
It is no secret that Sentech has been failing for
some time now. ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) is of the opinion that it is mainly due to a lack
of sufficient state funding during a time Sentech needed it most.
In fact, it got so bad for Sentech that they had
to discontinue many of their products, including their MyWireless broadband product. This was mainly because
they lacked funds for a proper product rollout. This happened during a time of rapid expansion in the
broadband market when many of their competitors were having it good. If the government provided the required
funding at the time, things could have turned out quite differently for
Sentech.
