Sentech: The end is near

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 16 November 2008

The ANC Government has proven beyond reasonable doubt that they do not want state-owned broadband signal provider Sentech to succeed. This is clear if one takes into consideration a continuous lack of adequate funding.

The end is near...

Confidence and morale at Sentech have hit an all time low as the board and management struggle to continue operations under very dire circumstances, mainly caused by a lack of adequate funding.

A lack of adequate funding has led to:

  • 25% staff shortage – This means that a lot of work are not getting done or that Sentech workers are doing more than their fair share of work.
  • Lost of key skills which are not being replaced – It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that the lost of key skills at Sentech will only help to sink the company.
  • Lost of Sentech’s top structure – Sentech has lost the Executives and General Managers of many key departments (Sales and Marketing, Finance, Technology, International Business, et cetera). This means that the people who are left in those departments have to move forward without official leaders to lead them. Responsibility has flown out the back door if one really think about it.
  • Lost of market share – It is no secret that consumers have left Sentech in droves in recent months and years.
