If growth in wages doesn’t keep up with
inflation…
If the growth in wages doesn’t exceed or at least keep up with the
inflation rate, workers are 9 times out of 10 left worse off, especially when they have to pay more for food, fuel,
et cetera because of factors outside of their control like oil prices, et cetera.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Telkom’s senior (executive) management team has given
themselves healthy salary increases while the rest of Telkom’s employees are getting paid peanuts in comparison.
Now, while it is fair that executives are being paid more than employees lower down in the organizational
structure, it is definitely not fair when executives are getting salary increases of 150% while other employees
are only offered 10.50%. No wonder the unions mentioned above are shooting for at least 12.50% and not
10.50%.
