Outsourcing of the security of Telkom’s cables already
ended in a farce…
Telkom attempted to outsource the security of its copper
cables to a private security company with disastrous consequences. Cable theft not only shot up by 90% when the
private security company took over, but Telkom also paid the private security company R969 000 (almost a
million) for a job that could have been done better in-house and at a lot less (+- R600 000). Rumours are doing
the rounds that the private security company had a finger in the pie when the cables were stolen.
In other words, while it will be outright irresponsible to claim
that outsourcing is not a good thing, it is definitely a very dangerous business strategy to follow when greedy
bastards manage the process.
