Where in South Africa will the cable land and to which
countries or continents will South Africa be linked?
The SEACOM cable will land near Richards Bay which boasts South
Africa’s largest harbour and will link South Africa to Europe and India.
Will SEACOM really put downward pressure on the prices of
international bandwidth in South Africa?
Definitely.
‘SEACOM was promising to supply bandwidth at prices 15 times
cheaper than Telkom’s current fees for international bandwidth…’
(Neotel stands its ground on cable rights, Stones, Business
Day, 12 November 2007).
In other words, we can assume that SEACOM will introduce much
cheaper broadband to the South African market than Telkom is currently offering.
Ivy Matsepe Casaburry’s ‘spoiled brat’, might after all have to
‘roll up his sleeves and start earning his money in a decent way’.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) welcomes
the news that the SEACOM undersea cable is expected to land in South Africa as
planned.
