SAT-3 maintenance work frustrates
again
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa), 7 February 2010
Planned maintenance work on the SAT-3 undersea
cable has caused havoc again for most part of the past week. Many broadband Internet subscribers in South
Africa were affected and experienced problems ranging from not being able to browse international websites,
frequent disconnections and not able to connect to the Internet at
all.
Caught by
surprise…
Despite the fact that Telkom refers to it as “planned maintenance” it was as clear as hell that most ISPs (Internet
Service Providers) were caught off-guard. One subscriber to the MyBroadband Forums perfectly described the
mood of many broadband Internet subscribers: “How on earth can planned maintenance be this much of a
cock-up?” (Moederloos, MyBroadband, 2 February 2010).
