Prospects remain positive for
broadband
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa), 11 January 2009
It is no secret that the world is
experiencing a financial and economic meltdown. This is why it’s encouraging to read elsewhere that broadband
lines amounting to 64 million were added around the world up to September last
year.
A healthy 19.2% increase to just short of 400 million
broadband lines...
Given the increase during very difficult times, it’s clear that
telecoms operators remain positive about the prospects for broadband. They will not spend billions on adding new
broadband lines if they believe broadband will fall flat on its face in the months and years to come.
The above will come as good news to ADSL Broadband and other broadband users in South Africa, despite the fact that it’s difficult at best
to even try placing an estimate on the number of broadband lines added here at home. If one looks at the damage
caused to our roads by telecoms operators adding new broadband lines, then the number of broadband lines added
in South Africa must be substantial.
