OECD report spells disaster for SA
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 31 May
2009
A recent
Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) report clearly indicates that South Africa is
falling behind OECD countries in terms of broadband penetration and broadband service quality. This is
despite the progress SA has made in creating a more broadband friendly
environment.
Broadband penetration rates…
SA’s broadband penetration rate has
increased to 2.81 in 2008 from an ultra low 1.5 in 2007. This is however still far below the average broadband
penetration rate of 22.6 as per the December 2008 OECD Broadband Statistics and 18.8 in 2007.
In other words, only about 3 out of
every 100 people are subscribed to broadband services in
South Africa.
