Why is it so important that SA develops broadband networks that count among the best in the world
or that can be described as ‘well-developed’?
Economic recovery.
It is no secret that South Africa and
most of the rest of the world are currently caught up in a recession. Getting out of a recession is difficult,
avoiding a depression is even more difficult, especially when there is no world war to get the world economy
started again. This makes it vital that countries do everything possible to be competitive in the global market
place. Failure to be competitive is a recipe for disaster. This is why it’s of great importance that the SA
Government constantly take steps to improve our country’s competiveness in the global market place. One of the
focus areas should be telecommunications infrastructure of which well-developed broadband networks must form a
vital part if we consider ourselves to be serious about economic recovery. The recent OECD report has stressed the
outmost importance of this.
In other words, it’s essential that
the SA Government ensure the development of quality broadband networks that can help to catapult the SA economy out
of the current recession.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa) is concerned about SA’s low broadband penetration rate and the quality of the broadband services being
offered in South Africa. We believe however that all is not lost despite the multiple challenges we
face.
