New blood at
Telkom
ADSL
South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 29
October 2006
The chairperson of Telkom, Momazizi
Mtshotshisa (below left), decided to make space for new blood
at Telkom by the end of the month. Telkom announced Ms
Mtshotshisa’s resignation after she handed in her resignation
due to “personal
reasons.”
New blood will come in the form of Shirley
Lue Arnold (above right). Shirley’s impressive track record
will without doubt prove to be a ‘golden nugget’ in Telkom’s
arsenal. This well travelled and educated woman hold for one
directorships in Peermont Global Ltd, Finlay & Associates
and Ernst & Young. She was born in Durban and raised in
Swaziland. She moved to the USA in 1982 “where she acted as
consultant to a number of institutions and companies, including
the Rockefeller Foundation and Unisys" (http://www.peermont.com/II/ii_directors.asp).
She returned to South Africa in 1994 and set up a BEE company,
Mmela Consultancy & Advisory Services. She also acted as a
consultant to well known South African based companies such as
Anglo Platinum, Heidrick & Struggles, Thebe Investment
Corporation and Worldwide Africa Investment
Holdings.
The true reasons for Mtshotshisa’s
resignation might be unknown or at best speculated about at
this stage. No matter what the reasons are for
Mtshotshisa’s early departure, the only
important question left is if Shirley Lue Arnold will
help to make Telkom a better telecommunications group for
all.
