Neotel to bring good news soon

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 30 September 2007

South African consumers can expect good news coming from Neotel’s side before the end of the year.

It’s no secret that Neotel has moved the promised launch date of its core product offering more than once because of factors outside of the company’s control. Despite this Neotel spokesperson, Mala Suriah, made it clear that an announcement can be expected “very soon, definitely this year” (Neotel vows core offering ‘this year,’ Leon Engelbrecth, ITWEB Senior Writer). Although she declined to give further details, we’re hoping to receive good news in this regard very soon as in before the end of the year.

Factors outside of Neotel’s control?

Yes.

Infraco delays…

Neotel ‘…blamed the latest delay on Infraco, the new state-owned broadband infrastructure company’ (Neotel vows core offering ‘this year,’ Leon Engelbrecth, ITWEB Senior Writer). According to Suriah it “…was a real show-stopper” (Neotel vows core offering ‘this year,’ Leon Engelbrecth, ITWEB Senior Writer).

Furthermore: ‘Government's attempts to pass the Broadband Infraco Bill, which will establish the company as a legal state entity in its own right, has had a rocky passage in Parliament. During recent hearings on the Bill, one of the major issues raised was Infraco's four-year exclusivity deal with Neotel’ (Neotel vows core offering ‘this year,’ Leon Engelbrecth, ITWEB Senior Writer).

In other words, Government’s failure to pass the Broadband Infraco Bill in time is one of the factors negatively influencing the launch of Neotel’s core product offering.
