Neotel: R1,6bn loss

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 14 June 2010

Neotel has posted an estimated R1,6bn loss in the 2010 financial year, and despite the company’s refusal to comment, it’s as clear as daylight that they’ve not managed to win over the hearts and minds of the Average Joes in South Africa.

Doomed to failure…

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) is of the opinion that Neotel is doomed to failure, not only given the substantial financial loss that was posted, but the fact that their service levels remain at shocking levels, especially on retail level.

On April the 5th last year ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) reported that in the preceding 12 months a shocking 78% of the comments posted in regards to Neotel’s service at Hellopeter.com were complaints (Will Neotel learn the lesson in time?, ADSL South Africa, 5th April 2009). Now the question we need to ask ourselves, has the situation improved since then? Well, a quick glance at Neotel’s stats at Hellopeter.com today reveals that the situation has only worsened. In fact, 92% of the comments posted in regards to Neotel’s service at Hellopeter.com over the last 12 months were complaints. There might be happy Neotel campers out there, but if the stats at Hellopeter.com are a true reflection of reality, then Neotel has clearly chosen to continue to mess us, the Average Joes in South Africa, about.
