Neotel expands into the SADC region
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 16 August
2009
Neotel is expanding into the South African Development Community (SADC) region in partnership
with the state-owned broadband entity, Infraco. The plan is to provide interconnectivity to countries within
the given region, offering them an alternative to Telkom.
Neotel’s
timing…
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa) would welcome the fact that Neotel and Infraco are combining forces to provide interconnectivity to the
SADC region, but we are concerned about Neotel’s timing.
Is it not time to make sure
that things are running smoothly in South Africa first before embarking ventures in other countries? Is the smell
of making extra money elsewhere overwhelming despite the fact that it comes at a cost to the SA
market?
There is a HUGE lack of Neotel
coverage in South Africa, but despite this Neotel has been hard at work since last year to roll out fibre networks
in Lesotho, Namibia, Botswana and Mozambique instead of focusing solely on the SA market.
