MWEB: Free Local Only ADSL to come to an
end
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 5 April
2009
MWEB has announced earlier this week that their unlimited free
Local Only ADSL Broadband trial will end in 30 days time. This comes as a total surprise considering the comments
they recently made to the contrary.
Bad news…
MWEB users will each be allocated with 10GB of free Local Only ADSL
bandwidth from the 1st of May this year. This comes after MWEB has given their ADSL subscribers access to unlimited
free Local Only ADSL since the 1st of February last year.
From an article dated 26/03/2009…
‘MWEB ADSL subscribers will be glad to hear that there are no plans
as yet to discontinue unlimited local traffic. MWEB customers will therefore still be able to access all local
content despite the status of their overall cap. Thayer said that MWEB was still gathering data in regard to this
offer and had no intention to put a stop to it in the near future’ (MWEB Connect with big broadband push, MyADSL,
26/03/2009).
Well, given the above and the surprise announcement earlier this
week, it is clear that MWEB has made a complete u-turn on their decison to continue to offer unlimited free local
only ADSL. This will definitely not sit well with MWEB ADSL subscribers of whom many have already indicated that
are going to cancel their contracts with MWEB. One can’t blame them for doing so despite MWEB’s best reasons for
deciding to put a stop to the trial much sooner than anticipated. MWEB has in fact sent a clear signal to current
and potential MWEB ADSL subscribers that MWEB cannot be trusted.
