ADSL South Africa - Interconnection Rates
This section of ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) is dedicated to the importance of low interconnection rates (call termination rates) in the building of a consumer friendly telecoms regime.
What are interconnection rates?
Interconnection, where telephony is of relevance, takes place between two telephone systems or networks when a call originating from one network operator is routed via another network operator's network. The fees that one network operator needs to pay to route calls via another's telephone network are called interconnection rates or call termination rates (in reference to the rates charged to terminate a call on another network operator's network).
