Mobile Broadband: Where is Trevor?
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa), 12 October 2010
Trevor Noah,
Customer Experience Officer (CEO) at Cell C, needs to speak up. This comes after it has become clear that Cell C is
taking us Average Joes for fools by persisting that nothing is wrong with their “4Gs” marketing
campaign.
Ordered
to stop using the term “4Gs”…
The
Advertising Standards Authority of SA (ASA) has ordered Cell C to stop using the term “4Gs” in their latest
marketing campaign since it can create confusion among
consumers.
The above
comes after the likes of MTN and Vodacom have lodged a complaint with the ASA since the use of the term “4Gs” can
cause confusion among consumers and rightly so. ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) is of the
opinion that it gives one the idea that Cell C can offer Mobile Broadband at 4G speeds or that they have a
4G (fourth-generation) mobile network which is certainly not the case. Cell C’s argument that “4Gs” is short for
or in reference to “4 great speed” or “4 great service” is ridiculous to say the
least.
In other
words, Cell C has been ordered to withdraw the term “4Gs” in their marketing campaign after MTN and Vodacom lodged
a complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority of SA
(ASA).
