Massive project planned for Limpopo
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa), 29 January 2008
The Limpopo government plans to connect 6000 sites, including
4400 schools and a number of clinics and hospitals in the Limpopo province to the Internet through a massive
wireless broadband technology
project.
The project, which is expected to be completed in the 1st quarter
of 2010, will involve the installation of infrastructure that’s needed to employ wireless broadband technology in
the province. The installation of the infrastructure will make it possible for the above-mentioned parties to
connect to the Internet. This will hugely benefit various communities in the province, especially those in remote
areas.
The Limpopo government has short-listed 13 companies for the job.
One company will walk away as the winner on Saturday the 23rd of February 2008, and after that, the hard work will
start. The company chosen as the winner will be responsible for installing, designing, maintaining and last but not
least, strategically placing the shared broadband network within the province.
