The long wait is almost over

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 29 January 2008

Neotel is still on track to launch their high-speed Internet or broadband Internet offerings in the 1st quarter of this year. This comes after the company received a high percentage of positive feedback from customers who are making use of their pilot service currently.

This must come as good news to the Average Joe and other broadband users who are eagerly awaiting the official launch of Neotel’s high-speed Internet offerings aimed at the consumer market. This is despite the fact that some have criticised Neotel’s choice of technology, CDMA 2000, where performance is of a concern. Alternative technologies can offer peak speeds of up to 3.1 Mbps. CDMA 2000 is a wireless technology similar to HSDPA that can deliver download speeds in access of 1 Mbps. While current pilot users of Neotel’s planned service are experiencing average download speeds in access of 1 Mbps, according to Neotel’s Fani Zulu, this will fall to a minimum range of 300 to 700 kbps on average as the network gets loaded. This is still much better than the average download speed of 481 kbps achieved with iBurst’s widely advertised service of 1 Mbps.

Although it’s too early to say, it seems like Neotel is going to be open and honest in regard to the shortcomings of their planned high-speed Internet offerings. This will definitely sit well with the Average Joes like you and me. ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) is sure that like us, you are sick and tired of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) such as iBurst and others that are employing deceiving tactics to get their filthy hands on your money.
