ADSL South Africa - Local Loop Unbundling (LLU or
LLUB)
This section of ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) is
dedicated to the importance of Local Loop Unbundling (LLU or LLUB)
in the building of a consumer friendly telecoms
regime.
Local Loop Unbundling, without going
into the technical details, allows various telecoms operators to have access to the link between telephone
exchanges and the businesses and homes of telecoms users. It's a great way to level the telecoms play field in
any country. It ensures healthy competition which ultimately benefits both telecoms operators and
consumers.
We've learned
from history that the moment 1-2 telecoms operators are allowed to exercise control over the local loop,
you're sitting with a monopoly that will not only charge exorbitant rates, but it will also do a great deal
of damage to the relevant country's economy for as long as its able to exercise control. Needless to say,
Local Loop Unbundling is an absolute
necessity, especially in today's fast changing telecoms
environment.
