Justin to
relocate
ADSL
South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 19 April
2007
Telkom executive, Justin Ramayia,
‘…has been appointed as CEO of Multi-links, a Nigerian-based
telecoms operator, with effect from 1 April 2007’ (Justin
Ramayia appointed CEO of Multi-links, MyADSL, 13 April
2007).
He ‘…would relocate to Nigeria
shortly to assume his new position’ (Justin Ramayia appointed
CEO of Multi-links, MyADSL, 13 April 2007). This is according
to acting CEO of Telkom, Reuben September.
In other words, Justin is already
in Nigeria or leaving South Africa soon.
It’s no secret that Telkom
recently ‘…acquired 75% of the equity shareholding of holding
company Kenston Investments Limited in Multi-Links last month’
(Justin Ramayia appointed CEO of Multi-links, MyADSL, 13 April
2007).
In other words, Telkom now calls
the shots at Multi-Links, Nigerian’s private telephone
operator.
What about allegations of
corruption concerning Telkom’s acquisition of
Multi-Links?
Well, if Solidarity (trade union)
gets its way and an independent commission confirms allegations
of corruption at Telkom, heads will definitely roll.
‘An article on the Financial Mail
website alleges that Telkom paid $20m more than the asking
price of Multi-Links’ owners’ (Solidarity asks for exhaustive
investigation into Telkom corruption allegations, MyADSL, 11
April 2007).
In other words, more than a R140m
allegedly ended up in the wrong pockets or were
wasted.
Can you tell us more
about Ramayia?
Sure. He ‘…has occupied various
positions at Telkom since joining the Company in 1976 and was
the Executive at Telkom's Fulfilment and Assurance Management
Centre prior to his appointment’ (Solidarity asks for
exhaustive investigation into Telkom corruption allegations,
MyADSL, 11 April 2007).
In other words, Ramayia has been
around for quite a while taking into consideration that he
joined Telkom when Apartheid was still at the order of the
day.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband
South Africa) wishes Ramayia the best of luck in his new
position as CEO of
Multi-Links.
