More non-price aggression between ISPs expected…

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) expects that more and more ISPs will tackle each other this year in non-price related issues.

iBurst’s recent attempt to stop Neotel from using the colour orange by lodging a complaint at the Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa (ASA) is an example of how things are already heating up. Despite the fact that ASA dismissed the complaint against Neotel it’s clear that the lines are starting to get blurred where advertising is of a concern. ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) has seen the orange Neotel ads displayed along various routes and we can’t help but to agree with iBurst to a certain extent. The first thought that goes through one’s mind when seeing those orange Neotel ads is that it must be iBurst ads. It’s only upon closer inspection that one realizes that its in fact Neotel’s. We will conclude by saying that Neotel is playing along very thin lines although they are not 100% in the wrong.

ADSL South Africa’s advice to iBurst: Respond with similar advertising along very thin lines… It’s not surprising that some of our competitors are after our orange. iBurst is the leader after all.

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) welcomes the news that the SA Internet user base has grown substantially in 2008. We are looking forward to an even greater 2009.
