Internet2: 100 Gbps capacity ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 21 October 2007 The completion of Internet2’s new nationwide network infrastructure in the United States will initially make Internet access speeds of up to 100 Gbps (Gigabits per second) possible.
‘With an initial capacity of 100 Gigabits per second (Gbps) nationwide and revolutionary bandwidth-on-demand capabilities, the new Internet2 infrastructure provides researchers and educators with the ability to transform disciplines across the board from science, to telemedicine, to network research, to the performing arts’ (100 Gbps Internet2 Network Complete, MyBroadband, 16 October 2007).
In other words, Internet2’s new nationwide network infrastructure in the US will give research and education a welcome boost.
