Internet Access: Nyanda wants to see cheaper Internet
access
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South
Africa), 21 May 2010
The Communications Minister, Siphiwe Nyanda, wants to see cheaper Internet access among other
things. He made it clear that Internet access is still not affordable for most South Africans, especially
people living in the rural areas.
Improve quality of life…
Nyanda has made it clear at the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day (WTID)
earlier this week that he wants to see a telecoms regime earmarked by affordable communication solutions.
Given the above, Nyanda for one wants to see a broader base of people having access to
communication mediums such as the Internet since it can help to improve the quality of their lives according
to him. Furthermore, he identified a lack of access to ICT infrastructure in the rural areas as one of the
major obstacles and intends to focus strongly on the use of ‘ICTs for accelerated service delivery and
empowerment’ this year.
