Intel to kick-start uptake of WiMAX
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 30 September
2007
It’s no secret that the wireless
technology WiMAX is struggling
to get out of the starting blocks despite the backing of various big names such as Nokia, Motorola and Nokia
Siemens Networks. This might change after Intel stepped
in.
‘Intel is on a massive drive to ensure WiMax interoperability in collaboration with Nokia and Nokia
Siemens Networks, something that may kick-start the uptake of WiMax and help it to live up to the hype’ (Intel
wants to win with WiMax, MyBroadband, 26 September 2007).
Furthermore: ‘In an effort to ensure that mobile WiMAX wireless products
work well together and with other products globally, Intel Corporation, Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks today
announced that they are testing interoperability across Intel's forthcoming WiMAX silicon for laptops and mobile
Internet devices, Nokia WiMAX devices and Nokia Siemens Networks WiMAX infrastructure equipment’ (Intel wants to
win with WiMax, MyBroadband, 26 September 2007).
In other words, Intel is doing something that might help to get
WiMAX out of the starting blocks.
