IMCCS to bring
relieve
ADSL
South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 27
March 2007
Affordable broadband will soon be available
to all South Africans, even to those
innon-serviced rural
areas, if communications solutions provider, IMC
Communication Solutions (IMCCS), has its way.
While details are at best sketchy
at this stage we can expect a formal announcement early April.
“The solution will enable communities through communications,
especially in the area of education” (Affordable broadband
‘soon available countrywide,’ ICTWorld, 22 March 2007). This is
according to Manie van Niekerk, Executive Director of
IMCCS.
In other words, the broadband
solution they have in mind will among other things give
education in South Africa a welcome boost.
Is IMCCS really serious about providing us
with affordable broadband?
Yes, ADSL South Africa is
convinced that they’re dead serious about providing us with
affordable broadband.
We’re convinced because
of two reasons:
-
Existing offers
competitive
- IMCCS already offers, among other IT and
communications solutions, competitive priced
wireless connectivity to home users, SMEs, et
cetera.
In other words,
unlike Telkom, IMCCS’s customers are already
benefiting from more affordable broadband
solutions. A sure sign that they’re in the business
of helping people.
-
Heavily invested in research and
development
– According to Van Niekerk ‘…IMCCS has been
researching the communications market, and has
invested heavily in research and development, to
find a cost-effective alternative and to solve the
communications problem in Africa’ (Affordable
broadband ‘soon available countrywide,’ ICTWorld,
22 March 2007).
In other words, they
have a lot of money invested to backup talk of
providing affordable broadband to all South
Africans.
What
other services do they offer?
The ‘…advent of cluster homes in
enclosed village type environments and the convergence of
voice, data, access control and even entertainment into a
common communications structure, IMCCS provides these services
to developers and consultants. Its solutions are tailored
around individual projects and are future-proofed for emerging
technologies’ (Affordable broadband ‘soon available
countrywide,’ ICTWorld, 22 March 2007).
In other words, they also offer
very useful services to developers and consultants.
Why are they not disclosing more information
at this stage?
“We are extremely excited about
this solution, but unfortunately we cannot disclose any further
information until the agreement has been signed with the
investor” (Affordable broadband ‘soon available countrywide,’
ICTWorld, 22 March 2007).
In other words, we will have to
wait patiently until the agreement with the investor is
signed.
ADSL South Africa
(Broadband South Africa) welcomes any effort to offer
affordable broadband to South Africans. We wish IMCCS the best
of luck in their endeavour.
