ICASA: What a
joke

ICASA, the
so-called ‘Independent Communications Authority of SA’,
has finally proven to be better off joining the nearest
circus instead of trying to regulate the South African
communications sector in regard to broadcasting and
telecommunications
services.
The chairperson of ICASA, Paris Mashile, has
according to the minutes of the June council meeting contacted
the NIA (National Intelligence Agency) “to conduct an
investigation on the leaks at Icasa”. The investigation was
requested after the Mail & Guardian for one highlighted the
reasons behind the mass exodus of senior managers at ICASA
earlier this year. The NIA is of course denying any involvement
or receiving such a request but ICASA confirmed that its
council has taken a decision to call in the NIA because “leaks
of confidential information could threaten the
multibillion-rand industries it regulates as well as the
economic stability of the country” (Lloyd
Gedye).
It’s really a shame when someone clearly
can’t take responsibility for his/her actions and needs to get
the NIA involved in a matter where pathetic governance is
really the issue. What a bunch of losers. The best of all is
that they are wasting your money pretending to be
decent.
Our advice to
the losers at ICASA: Close the doors and join some
political party instead. You will save us money because
then we don’t have to pay twice for the same pathetic
‘entertainment’ and can at least indirectly pay less for
telecommunication services.
