ICASA: Hell-bent on destruction

ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa), 30 November 2008

ICASA (The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa) plans to hike license fees with millions of rand, something that will destroy the benefits of the ICASA/VANs judgment.

ICASA doing the ‘devil’s bidding’…

It is clear that ICASA is doing ‘Poison Ivy’s’ bidding for her and risks falling flat out of favour with telecoms companies and the Average Joes in South Africa.

The above comes after ICASA has proposed a hike in license fees that will not only cost telecoms companies in South Africa ‘an arm and a leg’, but will result in us, The Average Joes, having to foot the bill. This will in essence destroy the benefits of the ICASA/VANs judgment in which The Pretoria High Court ruled that ICASA’s licensing process is flawed and that Value Added Service Providers (VANs) such as Altech have the right to build their own networks. It will infuriate any sane person because ICASA’s proposed multimillion-rand hikes in license fees are only designed to destroy the benefits (cheap broadband, wider access, et cetera) any telecoms revolution in South Africa will bring, despite what the imbeciles have to say about it.
