Nyanda’s move to acquire two luxury
cars, while us the Average Joes are locked in the firm grasp of a worsening recession, can only spell further
disaster for telecoms in South Africa. ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) do not have a problem with luxury
cars, but rewarding yourself with luxury cars as a Communications Minister, when you have so far done bugger all to
improve telecoms in South Africa, reeks for one of a person that won’t grab ICASA by the throat and demands
action.
Accounts with two or even more
operators...
Many Average Joes have so far
responded to high interconnection fees by having accounts with two, and in some cases, even three operators. All in
a bet to avoid paying high interconnecion fees when making calls. This is however not ideal, the ideal is to see a
500% reduction in interconnection fees, which will help to eliminate the need to have more than one account, which
also comes at an unnecessary cost.
ADSL South Africa (Broadband South Africa) wants to see operators
being forced to reduce interconnection fees to more realistic levels.
